B.A.S.E. Jumping - Skydive Midwest

B.A.S.E. jumping in general

B.A.S.E. jumping in an mainly underground sport of jumping from fixed objects with specialized parachutes. B.A.S.E. is an acronym for 'Building', 'Antenna', 'Span' and 'Earth'. B.A.S.E. jumping, even for the most experienced skydivers, is a very high risk activity and should never be attempted without extensive training. However, many people are drawn to it, and making a successful jump is extremely rewarding.

Preparation - Training

All B.A.S.E. jumpers start as skydivers. There are no exact guidelines as to how much experience is required before preparing for your first B.A.S.E. jump, many experienced B.A.S.E. jumpers recommend at least 500 parachute jumps with a similar equipment. A very important part of a successful B.A.S.E. jump is the parachute descent and landing. Many landing spots have obstacles that require a high skill level to avoid. Training on landing accuracy in different wind conditions is very useful in preparing for your first B.A.S.E. jump.
