Deployment sequence

This is the normal opening sequence of the student rig:

  1. You throw the main pilot chute handle all the way out and clear of the main container.
  2. The pilot chute (very small round parachute) catches air and acts as an anchor as you fall away. This first opens the container and then lifts the deployment bag (containing the main canopy) out of the container.
  3. The suspension lines unstow (from the rubber bands on the bag) and extend and then the bag opens. The main canopy extends and unfolds.
  4. As the canopy inflates the slider moves down the lines. (The slider slows the opening down and keeps the lines separated). When the canopy is completely inflated you release the brakes and the canopy assumes its normal flight.
